Not posting it on account of its plot content but I always liked OP4 the most, don't get what everyone had against it.

For my contribution, Diebuster has one of my favourite OPs. And since this is also an AMV thread it's an excuse to post what's been my favourite lately. Look at the contrast in what these two approaches make of the same material. Editing is the real film art, the finished visual material is just that, material waiting to be worked into a shape that means something to someone.

The Diebuster OP was always so lovely...

The change to a singer with a Japanese accent in the fourth opening of LOGH was jarring for me. I like the first and third openings of LOGH best.

It's strange that GitS isn't trannycore. You would think an anime about a digital future and a woman with a cybernetic body would appeal to them but I haven't seen them gravitate towards it. Anyway I really like the OP.

I haven't finished Welcome to the NHK yet but the OP is really nice.

I simply follow my own feelings.

Oh man those are such perfect picks. Especially the second ED. Have I posted about how much I like Outlaw Star before? The EDs are better than the show itself, but it's all still fantastic. And that brings another thought to my mind.

"Well, are you just gonna keep running away?"

We have the AMV. But we don't so much have the pseudo video essay mood piece based around original writing as a popular form yet. AMVs are fantastic, I love them. But who's going to succeed Dreams? I see potential here...

I almost wished to post this myself but I had refrained due to story contents, but regardless, it's such a beautiful song and M.D. Geist is such an amazing work. I'm also elated to know we have fellow Outlaw Star patriots.

For me, it's the Führer Oath in the second Gundam 0083 OP. Addendum: That same video also has spoilers for the second half of the OVA so just watch the first few seconds or the song by itself if you haven't seen it. Heil Zeon.

Yes it's a fantastic show, and I agree about the EDs. I remember being fascinated by them as a kid. Mysterious because they didn't seem related to the show, very dreamy and romantic, stuck with me. The show itself is a real pleasure: cool, fun, looks and sounds great. And I love the caster gun, might be my favorite weapon in sci-fi/anime. If you have further thoughts on Outlaw Star I'd be curious to hear them.

Lodoss is another good one.

Crest of the Stars itself didn't really interest me but the opening did. Perfect space opera theme.

And then there's this:

Excellent thought. Deserves its own thread, especially if other good examples can be found. I felt more watching that Toonami video (great find!) than I did seeing anything from "The Exhibit"...

I enjoyed it, though I admit the ending was unsatisfying and didn't deliver on the expectations that were set up. I'd still recommend it to others since there were parts I really liked.

GitS is Millennial trannycore, like SphereHunter— it might be passé to like it now because there's too many guns or some shit. But nothing Japanese is actually trannycore, since trannycore is all stolen valor to begin with. Even actual Japanese trannies are not doing the same thing as the retarded Americans (even if they want to) that try to place themselves beside them.

I always liked that OP, between the use of (combination) Russian vocals and 3D— to make the characters look more plasticine and doll-like.

I remember seeing this on TV, I don't remember how old it is but whenever TOM 2 was (I assume around 2002).

"Space" is not really something I cared about very much, but the Gen X love of "space" as a "new frontier" refracted through anime remains as captivating now as it was then— as it most accurately represents the internet and technology in practice.

My eternal loyalty to Williams Street (formerly Ghost Planet Industries— they should've kept that name) for being some of the first people to push through the only racism that has ever mattered (against the Japanese) and showcase superior work (keep in mind, they were doing this from WITHIN the American animation industry, making Americans look BAD)— particularly visible as Broken Promise is made entirely of DUBBED anime, and yet, they still capture the original spirit. Because nothing they did was ever meant to be corrective, as they truly did not see Japan as an inferior culture:

But a place of immense, foreign vision, that they sought to highlight.

As a more obscure comparison:

TechTV, later G4TV's anime block— Anime Unleashed, primitive editing compared to Ghost Planet's MTV Japan quality, but I learned about Gungrave, Boogiepop Phantom, R.O.D. the TV, and Betterman because of them.

I'm focusing on AMVs and editing because I don't feel like rewriting my thoughts on anime OP/EDs that I already wrote here: https://www.paradisehotel51.com/forum/vi....php?t=154 and also because a bunch of the videos I posted are now broken. But my favorite anime OP will always be Bleach:

The original video for Orange Range's Asterisk is also excellent:
