Two of my favorite new Anime OPs. Great music and stunning visuals.

Perfect AMV song. Also used in that amazing Penndragon video PIGSAW posted in the past. Despite the AMV you linked being over 20 years old, it manipulates the Frame that contains the anime in an extremely dynamic way that exceeds anything I've seen. Most AMV's I've watched are newer, but I can't recall a single one from any point in time even manipulating the Frame at all. Westerners pretty much ran out all resources for the creation of pretty things besides inertia after civilization was made Illegal in 1945, though that doesn't mean we can't manipulate already existing Japanese things into something new. If we're ever going to get our strength back and compete with Japan it's not going to be through starting with our equivalent version of Anime or a video game with a several million dollar budget, (even if you gathered the right people together the cultural infrastructure just wouldn't exist) it's going to be starting with making AMVs and Amarna Forum banners to gather power. Even with relatively simple forms like drawing digital art our foundation is too weak. When western artists copy Anime as much as they can something still turns out wrong. This is probably most pronounced with girls, who can't go insane like we can and overcome the world. They're going to be stuck making Obama fanart until the problem is overcome for them. Europe has lost it's literacy, and like when Europe became illiterate and Ireland stepped in to save the day, we must now import the sole supply of Media Literacy from Japan. Slowly and carefully.

I haven't seen many AMVs like that one either. It's really good.

You don't have to hire a ton of people in order to make a digital drawing, you just need to be good at drawing. I wonder if one person (or a few people) could make a new kind of "anime" (using the term loosely) by himself by leaning heavily on techniques like motion graphics and post-FX as artistic tools. Making fewer drawings go farther.

We already have this, and call it "Visual Novel".

MADs and visual novel OPs are definitely along the lines of what I'm thinking of.

Modern western anime do this a lot, the most obvious example of this was Invincible. It didn't look good imo, though covering a lot of it with motion blur and other effects worked fine for action scenes.

Listening to spoken word is exhausting (especially if you know the language, if you don't, it is functionally the same as any musical instrument) and in most English language AMVs I would, without a second thought change the song to the purely instrumental version, the voice of the singer substituted by another instrument of course, because to align what is happening on the screen and what is being said is hard, and might result in unpleasant dissonance.

This one I would say has imperfect consonance between images and what is being said. Watch it for yourselves, it is awesome. Hail Griffith.

Toaru has some of the best OST I've ever heard, and I love the electronic style it uses and like the OP posted above.
