This can become confusing when dealing with Catholics and their like as the two are deeply intertwined for them, but when he says "purpose for which they were made", in reference to rocks, trees, and ducks, I assume this means "by God" - or else what? This all-too-common take put forward by many an Evangelical oil tycoon is usually based on the biblical notion of man having some sort of dominion over the earth and its living inhabitants.
