Evangelion rebuilds are poorly executed

Anno is probably too TV brained to make a good Evangelion movie. The rebuilds played more like 12 anime episodes and less like 4 movies.

Take, for example, the 40 minutes of Rei learning what good morning means in 3.0 + 1.0. Such a snooze fest. Then Anno packs all of Gendo's backstory into like 10 minutes in the schizoverse at the end before everything inexplicitly turns into real like.

Those scenes allege that the point of the Evangelion world structure was so that an Aspergers character like Gendo could use his knowledge of metaphysical biology to attempt to destroy the world in this grand drama contrasting aspergers isolation with having a normal one.

This is so poorly communicated (if it isn't retconned) that it took 30 years to communicate.

Also I know this is Japanese custom but I really hate how schizo and disorganized all the scifi elements are. Dude literally pastes a new Christian mystic symbol and techno mcguffin every 20 minutes in the rebuilds. No one can keep track of all of the spears and black moons and arcs of galagoth or whatever. He should have systematized this crap better and attempted to relate it to the psychodrama.

I liked the original series so much that I have purposely never watched any sequel, as not to taint the experience, and I have never heard any comment that made me feel like that was the wrong decision.

Do you identify with Shinji? I don't and so I just find the TV series too long and drawn out. It also has too much postmodern BS pasted from Freud, Sartre, Lacan, etc. At least he got rid of that crap in the rebuilds. TV in general is a horrible genre and as for NGE in particular, he screwed up the ending so bad he got death threats and then made a replacement movie that starts with Shinji jerking off over unconscious Asuka. wtf?

In any case, I watched it 5 years ago, so not "in it's time", and I never identify with protagonists. I guess it's very post-modern, but I liked the progression from "Angels are mechas" to "Angels are feelings and memories".

Gendo's plot for the world is not some aspergers isolation it can be said to be the polar reverse, it is DIRECTLY as shown across the EVA series to be because he wants his wife back. He was a 'isolated autist' but Yui changed that, but then she died. So Gendo naturally in her memory along with Kozo Fuyutsuki plot to make it so there is only one soul the human soul along with the rest of SEELE. I would dub this a critique of touch grass types where taken to their conclusion it leads to the horrors of Human Instrumentality and the death of humanity, if I was not the type to look at a artist first and what influenced them(Probably unlikely Logo was on Anno's mind to say the least, but other examples of this mindset and its outcomes like say abusive parents...). I will note further that there's a critique of the rebuilds I would find understandable in light of this its that Anno did the above already in the TV ending and EoE as the climatic conflict-the rebuilds are a remix of that one could say. But I am fine with his going around his work again he made it fresh in many ways, and clearly with the ending made it a capstone to the entire mega franchise he and Gainax made. Lastly Anno is not a propgandist for social norms, the rebuilds end in a New(Maybe still the anti universe in some interpretations) World where we see Shinji and Mari head off-it is left unsaid if this is a success or not if the mistakes and tragidies likely now of a more slice of life kind will repeat. It would indeed be quite strange for the noted Ultraman superfan who keeps strike witches figures on his desk and his own wife notes his eccentrics in a autobiographical manga to ever make a work that could be a unambiguous surefire endorsement of touch grass with no thought or questioning of it, but of course art has no relation to artists.

Not sure what we disagree on. Gendo is definitely not having a normal one. He has aspergers and wants to commit the biggest school shooting ever and take all the bitches from the jock assholes in his new world because the one girl he had died and he had oneitus because she was the only person who would screw him (oneitus is not chad behavior). The people that fight him ultimately fight to have a normal one instead. They fight to have the village of normality not be wiped out, and then Shinji created the Real World where he has a normal one with Mari after Gendo dies.

Idea for superior execution for the rebuilds:

1. have 3 movies with the same titles as the 1st three. The fourth seems like a tacky add on anyway being called 3 + 1
2. 2 hours per movie
3. First movie is about the actually interesting 5 minute segment in 3 + 1 explaining Gendo's motivations. Starts with Gendo being an incel, hating the world, falling in love with Yui, discovering metaphysical biology and joining SEELE to become gods. Ends with Yui's death in the 2nd impact and Gendo deciding to secretly work to make his own impact against SEELE. Trim down and actually explain all the scifi mcguffins and link them to the psychodrama. Coherent idea for this: eva universe is very high entropy or something so that life cannot exist without AT fields. Humans get their AT fields from the arc of galagoth or whatever which is ayy lmao technology they discover before the 2nd impact. There are only 5 spears and these are the encryption keys to this technology, they can send a command to it to change the AT field configurations. This is why they need the spears to initiate impacts and this is why there can be different plans for different impacts.
4. 2nd movie is the 1st two trimmed down. Shows how he is like his father. His father uses the clones to seduce him to the sperg side to destroy humanity and he initiates the 3rd impact after experiencing loss and disrespect. Actually animate how Kaji stopped the 3rd impact.
5. 3rd movie is about Shinji learning from his mistake and overcoming his loss with Kaworu and then confronting his father who is trying to stage the last impact having finally seized the spears, defeating him and resetting the world to have a normal one.

It's quite apparent your issue is not with the film, it is that you can only see in retarded Lookism human types theory among other retarded memes and so see what you want to see. The sexual element is not brought up by Gendo in the series, ever it is stated as one of  connection, for the first time he could live with another. And when he loses that he is filled with sorrow because he does not, want to, cannot live alone again.  So his solution (which is strictly NOT taking the women of mankind for himself) is to make sure nobody cannot not form a connection as there will be no separation between any humans. And again in both the film itself and can be seen in Japan these "touch grass elements" are not the same as advocates on our side of the pacific want, its a false equivalency.

I have no emotional identification with any of this and as such can only understand Gendo as a failed breeder who wants to flip the table and make Yui his sex slave in the singularity, because he is such a failure at getting sex irl.
