Futurism: The New Animism
#1
I am working on a piece on futurism. I think that animism is the default spirituality of humanity, in which the entire world appears alive with the Divine spirit. As a concrete culture forms, Man begins to focus his capacity for detecting the Divine on certain specific objects, be it the Sun, ocean, or even an abstract being divorced from all matter. Futurism I think was a response to the postmodern decay, the Death of God, in which all prior symbols had lost their culturally-designated sacredness. Man found himself surrounded by things like cars, planes, etc that had never been mythologized like animals or other "natural" things had, and thus felt imprisoned in a sterile environment. Futurism was merely Man reverting back to his default state in an attempt to remystify the world around him. To look upon the technological world with the eyes of a child as his ancestors once did the natural. I believe this is still the way forward despite fascism's loss on the world stage. Thoughts?

Quote:“The study of Nature is the worship of Nature – idolatry in the sense of the Israelitish and Christian God; and idolatry is simply man’s primitive contemplation of Nature; for religion is nothing else than man’s primitive, and therefore childish, popular, but prejudiced, unemancipated consciousness of himself and of Nature.”
Quote:“The author of the Book of Wisdom says truly of the heathens, that, “for admiration of the beauty of the world they did not raise themselves to the idea of the Creator.” To him who feels that Nature is lovely, it appears an end in itself, it has the around of its existence in itself in him the question, Why does it exist? does not arise.”
Quote:“Egoism is the God who will not let his servants come to shame. Egoism is essentially monotheistic, for it has only one, only self, as its end. Egoism strengthens cohesion, concentrates man on himself, gives him a consistent principle of life; but it makes him theoretically narrow, because indifferent to all which does not relate to the wellbeing of self. Hence science, like art, arises only out of polytheism, for polytheism is the frank, open, unenvying sense of all that is beautiful and good without distinction, the sense of the world, of the universe. The Greeks looked abroad into the wide world that they might extend their sphere of vision; the Jews to this day pray with their faces turned towards Jerusalem.”
Quote:“The polytheistic sentiment, I repeat, is the foundation of science and art”
Quote:“The history of mankind consists of nothing else than a continuous and progressive conquest of limits, which at a given time pass for the limits of humanity, and therefore for absolute insurmountable limits. But the future always unveils the fact that the alleged limits of the species were only limits of individuals. The most striking, proofs of this are presented by the history of philosophy and of physical science. It would be highly interesting and instructive to write a history of the sciences entirely from this point of view, in order to exhibit in all its vanity the presumptuous notion of the individual than he can set limits to his race. Thus the species is unlimited; the individual alone limited.”
Maybe these Quotes from The Essence of Christianity by Ludwig Feuerbach might be relevant.

People are still animistic in small ways. EX. naming cars and so on. I am sure some people name their PC's. Or talk to them from time to time. Okay, I have talked to my PC...Such is life.
I don't understand what you are positing by "the way forward." Do you mean as some artistic movement or some way of being that will leap over or provide fuel to surpass the other problems?
If the first, sure. Why not, anything can be an artistic movement, it truly does not matter. If you want it to be generative, it simply has to be good.
If you mean the second, then I don't think this is the case. People becoming more animistic (pre-supposing that they are not already this) would not do much for the current situation. They would remain as they are, tied to dregs, heavy as anchors.
Of course the ideal animism is energizing. But the ideal is not what the mass would partake in. The mass would partake in the mass form. Pointless rituals and hectoring of others to do the same (imagining some type of shinto-like system here.)
Would this give them the capacity to judge or the humility to be judged? No.
The unfortunate truth is that humility comes with pain. Something that shows them what they are. Animism is not sufficient for this (and is certainly not necessary.)
The divine spirit is not something for the mass to see, nor were they ever capable of seeing this. If others saw it, then so be it. But its utility on the mass was as so: A tool to add accepted "authority" to whatever rule or order was to be. Some priests would get out of hand and subvert this here and there (as is natural.) If the church was effective at any given time, they would suppress this.
Anyway, these are my thoughts. But perhaps I misunderstand the concept.

“Mara congratulated Shakyamuni on achieving enlightenment in an attempt to make the Buddha leave so no other Sentient beings could escape the evil demons grasp. Shakyamuni knew what Mara was plotting but thought “If I can not save the Dalits in this life time it is all for nothing,” and the Buddha then Dropped dead on the spot. Mara Sang in absolute delight knowing that the Buddha would not turn the wheel of dharma at deer park in sarnath, that the eight fold path would never be learned, and that no more souls would ever escape the cycle of suffering.”

The reestablishment of religion is crucial for any future. The human center is in the heart, without faith or love only rot and decay are left for the body. What is love but a madness that engulfs the heart making one seek an ever higher destiny. Is not Zarathustra’s “going under” a result of love, that he fell in love with the sky and only wants to escape the spirit of gravity climbing to new heights. What is faith but a belief that supersedes reality. Unlimitedness, supernaturalness, exaltation of feeling – transcendence is therefore the essence of faith.

A revival of the true religion of the blood is necessary for a revival of the soul of a civilization. In Taoism the sage “inspires the vitality of all lives, without holding back” and thus the lower can not help but be pulled by the energy of the higher. The true invalids are those who in past lives were maggots or worms. When the true faith of the blood is realized soon too will the true science of health come back and the invalids will be euthanized.

Very wise and powerful post. Thank you, Different Guest.
