Improving the quality of the posts
#1
Recently, there has been an uptick in bad quality posts and threads. I blame this on a twofold issue. On one hand, old posters have decreased their activity to a drastic level, some completely dropping out of the forum completely. On the other, the increase in new users have found the forum lacking a concrete culture reinforced by old members have attempted to take it in directions which conflict with the ostensible aim of the forum. While I will not name specific names, the deluge of wholesome posts (not to speak of the shit threads set up particularly to bait people...) is horrendous. As such, I've locked the American vs Europeans thread and will use it as an example of what NOT to post. I (and hopefully the rest of the moderation team) will be playing a much heavier hand in quality control in the future, hopefully attracting some of the old posters back in the process. Sorry for the amount of coal that has been generated in the last few days.

What "deluge of wholesome posts"? One thread with pics of a Chinese city I thought was cool? The fitness threads? One guy saying that civilization is bad?

I dont mind anything you've posted Billionare, its mostly a result of the European vs American thread and the fallout it has caused on all sides. Even before that, I do feel like there has been a decline in the thread topics *though*. This is mostly a result of some of the more knowledgeable forum members posting less than it is the fault of the newer members, but I feel like its important to maintain the attempted level of quality regardless. Despite this, I'm willing to reverse course and resume the laissez faire form of moderation if enough people object OR the moderation team comes out soundly against the decision.

Amarna 1.0 is gone and will never come back. Smart people put lots of sweat and blood into those posts. When it went up in smoke, the motivation to make those kinds of effortposts went just as quickly. So, of course quality has declined.

Regardless, I don't agree with locking the thread. It's vantablack Congoid coal, so what? Take it as a nice opportunity to formulate longform arguments against that kind of ideology. Or against my ideology, if you're a member of the Carlsbaddian Armed Forces. There was plenty of coal on Amarna 1.0, too.

Can you explain what you mean by 'the type of conflict' and what exactly the 'fallout' of the thread is? It really doesn't seem like a big deal and I think it should be unlocked. If you don't like a poster just soyquote or nignore. As Leverkuhn said even bad threads have some good posts and I think that thread did. I don't even think the premise of the thread was that bad, even if some of the content was. Regardless, deleting threads won't suddenly lead to inspiration for better ones.

Sure. The original post was obviously bait into getting people hot and bothered over the deserved browning of Europe, with the rest of the thread being several page long shit flinging of the unfunny type. Many of the prominent members have been soying out about it as a result and (as the poll reflects so far) have seen it as a sign of the forums decline. Considering the push back, I might reconsider unlocking the thread but I do still feel like some level of moderation is increasingly necessary. I do not wish to annoy any of you with too much jannying, so I will avoid any silly excesses.

You're overreacting to Carlsbad's tweets. Carlsbad being grumpy and dismissive is a constant; being shocked at a rude remark from him is like being shocked that the sun rose this morning.

I do agree that we've yet to reach the heights of the last forum, but it also took quite a while for that one to get good. The absence of top posters from the last one (DSG and Mikka in particular) is an issue. DSG cited security concerns as the reason he wouldn't post here; I've already made big leaps in that area (securing the software and firewall, anonymizing IP data) and hope to make a few more (hashing passwords w/ a more secure algorithm). Hopefully these will assuage people's fears.

The site's styling may also be an issue. I didn't design this theme with best practices in mind. I suspect the particular color / font / size of the post text makes it a little unpleasant to read - not enough to prevent people from reading it, but just enough to subconsciously discourage close reading in favor of illiterate shitflinging. I will have to go through the literature on how to properly present body copy.

The thread should be unlocked. There was nothing whatsoever to distinguish it in character from the vast majority of threads on the forum - attempts at defining categories from concepts and observations rendered fruitless from the very beginning by the selection of language making semantics disputes inevitable.

- and OP's eccentricities - but those are not reason enough to lock a thread.

*semantic disputes

I apologize if I've overreacted. I'll unlock the thread and see how things go. I hope at the very least that people keep discussion quality in mind.

The following posters would need to return for it to reach the old Amarna's level: Mikka, DSG, Rin Tohsaka Groyper, Nathan J Robinson, Miguel Serrano Groyper. And Nick Fuentes Groyper would need to post a lot more.

It might be best if we consider February to April the beta phase of Amarna II. I believe old Amarna had a similar phase in the summer of 2021. Once Chud has finished making the necessary security improvements, the mods should agree on an official launch date for Amarna II, and then another invite should go out on twitter.

The key thing is to regain the energy and momentum of November-December 2021.

@Chud Are you considering implementing some of the suggestions from that article like removing post count? I wouldn’t be opposed to that. Pagination seems necessary for long threads (I suppose his suggestion is meant for articles), and I’d imagine real time thread updates would be a hassle to implement.

Also, I know people have discussed this before but I am on the side of narrower text with bigger margins.

I don't think that post count is a problem here, it's unintrusive and nobody pays attention to it.

I might change the post format to user info side-by-side with the text instead of on top, but that will probably accentuate the "preening" and status-seeking effect the article warns about. I want the focus to be on the text itself and not the person who produced it. Also, part of me is screaming at what an egregious waste of space it would be.

I don't know what exactly NFG did for old amarna to get that initial movement going, but the forum pretty much overnight went from him and me laying out concepts there to alive with multiple people effortposting. Was there something like a big tweet of "everyone come look at this forum I'm trying to start"? I feel like there would need to be a deliberate period of several quality posters all deciding to make a bit of an initial effort to get the old momentum back.

I'm trying to do some resuscitation-posting, but I'm one poster and only so motivated. Old Amarna was largely carried by about ten motivated effortposters. Getting them together again isn't an impossible ask, but last time it kind of happened naturally in a way that was probably too good to ever count on happening again.

I suggest opening a new locked subforum titled Entartete Poste. In the case of future coalposting incidents, the culprit's posts would be moved there by a janny and displayed for the general public. The author's humiliation would teach him an important lesson against countersignaling anime, videogames and soyjak, he would apologize and vow to never post Chungus again, and if he does not comply he will be banished from the forum forever. It will also give prospective new posters a feel for the rules of the playground.

I see you ended up trying it anyway. I think that will make more of a difference than the name/avi layout but I doubt either will make very noticeable differences to post quality. I don't think wasting screen space is a problem. We won't run out.

The Furry Gas Chamber worked well for SomethingAwful. There is much to learn from studying SA in terms of how to (and how not to) develop and grow a forum culture. Of course, their primary draw was acting as a news site with a forum attached- not solely as a forum.

Then we got the list of them, I changed their AVs to the Star of Yiff, and confined them to a forum called something like the "Furry Funhouse" where they could talk about yiffing and fucking Chip and Dale and whatever they like. They were not able to post anywhere else. After a week, I used CSS to make green glass clouds fill their forum and murdered all their accounts. It was quite funny.

Lowtax may have become a huge fag later in life, singlehandedly created a platform which gave birth to many of our worst enemies, as well as himself functionally being on the "other team"- but he lived as a Chud and died as a Chud, and for that I can respect him.

I truly am sorry and despise these things just as much as you, if not significantly more.

Sick of niggerfagots countersignalling Amarna from twitter. If you have something of value to poast or want to dunk on us then poast on here rather than make tweets that no one will see and will be deleted unarchived by jannies in 5 days. If you spend 5 hours a day on twitter whining about amarna for free and a paid jannie nukes your account in less than one second, who is the real janny?

Anthony, Earth Rabbit, Nick Fuentes, Trep, and others need to come back and post more.
