The Site's Look
#41
The site looks good to me, but I have a suggestion: I think it would be nice to have another block below the different topics to display the latest 10 or 20 posts as a conduit to further discussion.

Thoughts?

Also my signature doesn't show up for some reason.

Signature is a box you tick under your post when sending private messsages. Not sure why it's not allowed under posts. Maybe that's a personal decision by Chud. I'll ask him now. And also this other suggestion.

Not having signatures is a personal choice of mine (I don't like their redundancy, and the fact that they often have more saliency / semantic content than short replies). There are "new posts" pages ("View New Posts" and "View Today's Posts" in the topbar) but I'm not sure how to integrate them into the main page. Will see what I can do

I personally enjoy signatures, but they're made for wider formatted posts. I think they'd look odd underneath our current long and narrowly spaced posts.

And how does everyone feel about the narrow posts now that we've had them for a while? I don't think i have a preference between this and normal forum spacing.

I do not like signatures #praxeology
#46
i like the narrow posts. much easier to read.

I think we ought to change the default no pfp selected image. I dislike the white silhouette.

Is this the place to submit banners? I don't even know what dimensions you guys prefer

We still haven't standardised dimensions because we're dumb. Elden Ring might work okay.

The only argument against signatures is one for Obongophone tech lethargy and illiteracy, forums are for desktop use— which means you should be, at minimum, fluent in the entire Adobe suite + other basic programs (though text only signatures can look good).
However, the point of it matching better to wide posts is correct.

Setting a custom default avatar should also be standard to any forum.

I suggest standardizing the banner size soon, it would dramatically improve the upper section (the contributions have been consistently good since Amarna I so it's a waste to have them mismatched in size).

Anyway:

Excellent contribution. And I agree that we should standardise banner size. And also have them all displayed from the upper left of the site rather than centered. This would make the size discrepancy less of a problem too I think. And really it just looks better.

Yes, the upper left centering of Amarna I banners was cooler. I vote for that.

I think it's just good internet style. In line with the edge of the shitbox I think would be right. Or maybe a touch further left even.

The banner size standard is that they can't be wider than 1200px, or taller than 300px, and that any submissions that go beyond those dimensions will be downscaled to fit them. I like having some heterogeneity within those constraints.

Two thoughts. First, the christmas banner should probably be taken out of circulation. Also the halloween one.

Second, do you think it's too left? Looks kind of odd. Maybe in line with the shitbox would be better. Generally thinking about how the site looks now.

It's been a while now. How does everyone feel about the narrow columns of text?

I personally might prefer going back to a typical forum format wider spacing. I think it looks nicer with longer posts, which I tend towards making.

Edit: Could this be made an option rather than a fixed setting?

This is my vote. Best of both worlds

We all agree the black suns are due to go now, right? Just bringing this issue back to mind.

Only if we can replace it with a 3D animated spinning ankh.
