Why do so many in the "dissident right" sphere opt-out of the internet archive?
#1
I couldn't help but notice many "dissident right" publications when reading through this list of websites and this list twitter accounts excluded from the Wayback Machine. Based on blogposts like this, it appears that the Internet Archive scrubs websites from the Wayback Machine primarily to comply with demands from website owners who wish to hide their past.

This raises the question as to why so many figures in the dissident right/dirtbag left "anti-liberal" sphere desire to obscure their history. I suspect that many of these websites and accounts may have historical connections to NGOs or interest groups which are opposed to the right, and therefore seek to hide these connections by requesting that the Internet Archive delete snapshots of their past. However, many likely requested the deletion of their snapshots to hide doxxes or to protect their OPSEC. I hope that some members of Amarna might be able to shed some light upon this matter.

I couldn’t give you an answer without delving into speculation, but I think you’re in the right direction. A lot of the DR is probably one or another think tank, NGO or psyop. Or various individuals within it have ties to organizations and bodies that are unquestionably.

So keeping a degree of obscurity is in all their interests.

Federal agents, NGO deradicalizers, and the like abound in the sphere, and they have gotten better and better at covering their tracks.

I don't think it's about hiding their past or anything, my guess is that it's a measure against cancellation. These people are thinking that if they ever attain some public office, they don't want people linking to embarrassing blogs they wrote 15 years ago on the Wayback Machine. I also wouldn't say this in itself suggests anything sinister other than that they know their way around the internet, which a lot of people in these spaces do.

If you're some trashwhore like Katherine Dee (rest in peace) who never writes anything memorable, then there's not really any upside to allowing your site to be archived anyway. I think a lot of online figures would remove their blog or Twitter profile from archives if they knew it was possible and easy, but the vast majority aren't aware.

I'd like to understand why Yarvin in particular would do this, though, since I think his work is worthy of preservation (even if I don't agree with some of it).

It's supposedly to prevent doxxing.

I can imagine Yarvin believing that he's constantly making his past work redundant. Of course I would disagree. His old work is an interesting time capsule of what he thought was appropriate to say in another time and place. It was a totally different culture back when he started this stuff. It's interesting to see how he thought to speak on politics then to now. Pre and post /pol/. In some ways I would say he was actually far more based back then. He could get pointed on subjects like the nigger question to really break through the complacency of the time. Very cool.

He approved a effort of his fans to make a collection that was not on some 2000s blog hosting site ergo it doesn't need another host I presume is the logic.

The original blog is funnily enough archived without issue and still up.

The answer for the rest of them are as anodyne, TRS alumni constantly complain of being stalked by the feds and others and the offense they feel as SERIOUS DISSENTS anyone dares to look them up. Stone Age Herbalist being in academia and wise enough to note antifa types doesn't want a trace for them to follow. Default_friend and Taylor Lorenz are women. Internet Archive it should be noted does not nor likely ever will unless some drastic changes happen legally deny such a request because even a frivolous suit over personal info sharing could harm them and their project.

For some of them it might be fantasies of political office, or a career in academia/traditional publishing; but most just don't want people being able to look up that they've gradually, but surely, reinvented themselves to appeal to a broader audience.

There's nothing wrong with intellectual growth, of course. If you're not embarrassed by your fifteen year old self that's usually a sign you've never matured.

But when you're putting on the airs of a public intellectual it calls into question the supposed expertise you're implicitly claiming to have when you started your career talking about Donald Trump as some sort of Caesarean figure. It's a slippery pole to the top of Twitter grifting: for everyone guy who end up making a living creating a successful podcast about BASED racism there's a hundred who put in the work and still fail. Ditching and burying your old personae is just part of the game if you want to win.

Remember: BAP used to call people retards for believing in IQ or the existence of the white race. That's not what the kids paying $5 a month for his podcast want to hear in their parasocial relationship...

What a disingenuous cheap shot.

Obsession with IQ as some magic, definitive number is very oriental and becomes nearly the same as female ""academics"" on X who stomp their feet and point to their ""credentials"" as a means of argumentation. It also opens the door for your country and its institutions to bring in hordes of asians and jeets and "Nigerian Student Accepted to All Eight Ivy League Schools" success stories that we can show on the nightly news segment... because they have such High IQs. As for you implying that he denies the "existence of the White race" ... what is the White race? Just some massive, all-encompassing blob that has remained the same since inception? "We wuz Aryanz n shit nigga!"

You sound like a resentful fool when you make drive-by attacks like this, on a figure such as BAP nonetheless, that have no basis in truth and without providing any evidence to support.

There's more I could say but I don't want other thread on twitter podcasting empires, we have the twitter thread for that. To writ I find your theory quite silly, getting yourself off the archive index does not solve the issue of what people remember of you. Twitter itself, along with other social media sites acts as one unless you wipe thoroughly and often. Even then there are screenshots, recollections etc. And the reinvention you see I find dubious to bring up in light of 95% of it is similar to a guy going from a black jacket to a slightly different shade of black. Name me one man on what we can call the dissident right whose done a serious change of their writing style, their aesthetic motifs or indeed whatever counts as their ideas. All I see are a sea of slight name and avatar changes to avoid another ban. I came up with a metaphor for the behavior of most accounts long ago they come to the state fair  set themselves up next to a barn(Repenting a particular  bug bear be they seed oils greens or all of the above) and start throwing their paint balloons labeled takes. They then get cheers or jeers based on the patterns of the paint and if its a nice trad or gymbro color. If the audience can't or more often won't note a change or decline that's on them and the game imo.

I also wish to directly highlight to everyone reading this thread if you don't think the paranoia that is suggested from removal of your account from any archive is not at least a little justified I suggest checking out the articles of the organization bellingcat(Even the name is lowercase! Gosh!) under the far right tag. Here's their most recent work.

Michael Colborne & Kolina Koltai' Wrote:One detail that helped Bellingcat confirm the location was a red square visible beneath one of the fascist symbols on the banners. We also spotted promotional materials for a fitness recovery drink — the drink company’s logo was also on a section of the wall alongside four posters of athletes. In that same corner of the gym, there is a sign with obscured contact and social media details. While the gym name was covered, the icons indicating what social media platforms it was on remained visible.
In light of such trackers both professional and unpaid unindexing has additional justification beyond the principle of they have a right to(Unless they are someone whose fully doxed themselves, then whats the point eh?)

That can't possibly be the full list of twitter accounts that have chosen to be excluded. Eight? Just eight?

There's definitely a lot more including those who have gotten into fights with Kiwi Farms, I recall Keffals was on the list too possibly and so was Byuu.
